The traffic stop happened on Monday, Sept. 2 at 2:40 a.m. in Uniondale, the Nassau County Police Department said.
According to police, while on routine patrol, officers observed James St. Clair, 40, of Uniondale, operating a 1996 Honda Accord traveling southbound on Brookside Avenue, fail to signal at the intersection of Pine Street, police said.
The officers then activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. During the investigation, it was discovered that St. Clair emitted the odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and glassy eyes, according to police.
His 12-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were in the back seat of the vehicle, said police. The children were released to their mother who was the front-seat passenger. St. Clair was placed under arrest without incident. No injuries were reported.
St. Clair was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated (child under 16 - Leandra’s Law), five counts of aggravated unlicensed operation/alcohol or drugs, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver and numerous VTL infractions.
He will be arraigned on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at First District Court in Hempstead.
